T
Tare Weight
The weight of the actual container or packaging (e.g. carton, skid/pallet including the wrapping). See also Nominal Weight and Scale Weight.
Tariff
A tariff contains the details of the contract between you and your customer or carrier. Tariff details include the services, conditions, and options provided, the lanes and zones covered, and the rates that apply to the services, conditions, and options.
Tender
A request made by a customer or shipper to a carrier or third party logistics provider, or by the 3PL to a carrier to provide freight service for a specific movement.
In Transportation Manager, a tender could be issued for a load or a trip.
TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit)
See Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU).
Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU)
Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (FEUs) are used to normalize volume commitments between shippers and carriers. A TEU refers to a container that is 20 feet long by 8 feet wide and 8.5 feet high. Actual length for containers moved by carriers may be longer (for example, 40 feet, 45 feet) and height may be taller (for example, 9.5 feet). Also see Forty-Foot Equivalent Unit (FEU).
Third Party Logistics Provider (3PL)
A logistics provider who arranges shipping services for its customers using one or more carriers. Often abbreviated as TPL or 3PL.
TL
See Truck load (TL).
Ton-Mile
A ton-mile is defined as one ton of freight shipped one mile. Ton-mile can be used as a metric of demand for freight transportation services.
Total Distance
For point-to-point movements: the distance that must be covered to get from the first pick up stop to the last drop off stop on a load's or trip's itinerary. For round-trip movements: the distance that must be travelled to move from the origin point (domicile or first pick-up stop) and eventually return to the same location. For both point-to-point and round-trip, this includes both the total of loaded and unloaded distance.
TPL
See Third Party Logistics Provider (3PL).
Track and Trace
A module in Transportation Manager for inquiring into the current status of shipment or load, or for updating the status of a freight movement.
Tracking ID
The carrier tracking number attached to each component handled by carriers providing parcel freight service. It is requested by the carrier when a shipper makes a request to trace a package. When containers are packed within other containers, a Tracking ID is assigned only to the highest level container.
Tractor
Transportation equipment that can be used as the power source to pull one or more trailers.
Trading Partner
A business entity that any other business deals with.
Trailer
Transportation equipment that can be loaded with freight. In Transportation Manager, Trailer refers to any type of cargo container, including both intermodal containers and trailers that can be pulled by a tractor over the road network.
Trains
In trucking, trains refer to a freight movement that consists of two or more trailers being pulled by a single tractor. Also see Double and Triple.
Transaction
A financial operation that generates G/L, A/P, or A/R accounting entries.
Transaction Run
The batch process used to process A/P or A/R transactions.
Transit Mode
A high level classification of freight service. Examples of transit mode are rail, air, ocean and road (i.e. highway). Inter-modal would be a distinct mode that combines one or more of the modes just listed.
Transportation Bid Collaboration
A former name for the Blue Yonder product now called Logistics Procurement.
Transportation Optimizer
The previous name for the product that is now called Transportation Planner.
Transportation Planner
A companion product to Transportation Manager that automates the process of load planning and load scheduling. Transportation Planner will perform optimization algorithms that honor various constraints and produce the most cost effective transportation plan.
Trip
Trip Savings
The difference between the sum of the costs for the individual loads and the trip cost. This represents the theoretical amount that is being saved by handling loads as a trip vs. moving each load using a common carrier. Depending on configuration of Transportation Manager, individual load costs could be based on Planning tariffs or Execution Tariffs.
Trip Sequence Number
The incrementing number assigned to each load on a trip to define the trip itinerary.
Triple
The combination of a tractor and three trailers connected in tandem by converter dollies.
Truck load (TL)
A shipment or group of shipments requiring truckload service. Usually, a Truck Load service implies a contract to use a piece of equipment to its capacity to move goods from one or more locations to one or more locations.
