Background execution

Background execution refers to an alternative workflow where operations performed on selected objects are executed as a separate monitored thread. Background execution allows you to continue working in the UI while the process executes on the server.

This workflow is supported by execution across pages, as well as operations supporting multiple object selection where the number of selected objects exceeds a defined threshold.

Note: The System Administrator may adjust the number of rows, or disable the feature.

From entity views, when you perform an eligible operation, a prompt is presented with the option to execute in the background. A ‘Yes’ response initiates background execution. A ‘No’ response performs the operation in the UI.

From the Search panel, when you perform Run in Background on a selected search item, the system processes the search in the background.

A message is displayed when background execution begins, and another is presented when background execution completes.

You can view the list of current and recent background tasks through the Background Tasks button on the Log window accessed from the Results panel Message Log.

Tasks older than 4 hours automatically roll of this list.
