Business Hours Exceptions (Employee)
The Business Hours Exceptions utility updates the holidays for a set of user selected entities, based on address and entity type (for example, Load-Ats, Hubs, Consignees, Distribution Centers, Docks, Carriers, Customers, Domiciles, Assets, and Global Settings) and produces a message log. It provides the following functionality:
- Ability to select entities affected by the update, based on type and Zone/ Division combination.
- Ability to select the update strategy for Business Hours Exceptions:
- Replace existing entries: All existing exceptions in this category are replaced by the new ones.
- Add to existing entries, deleting older entries (when maximum number exceeded - see Note below): All existing exceptions in this category are preserved if space allows for both old and new entries to co-exist. Otherwise, the required number of the oldest entries are deleted to make room for the new ones, provided that no entry equal or greater to current day must be deleted. In the case the operation will fail. The newly specified entries are added if the maximum number of allowed entries is not exceeded; otherwise, the operation for the specific Location/Customer/Carrier etc. will fail.
The page used to submit the update request has two tabs: General and Exceptions. From this page, you can specify a list of Zones. When multiple Zones are provided, they should be separated by a comma.
Note: The maximum number of Business Hour Exceptions that can be specified is marginally less than 250. There is a limit to the total number of characters that can be passed to the batch process that will update Business Hour Exceptions. Since the number of characters passed to the batch process is a sum for all supported parameters, the limit for number of Business Hour Exceptions will be influenced by the number of Divisions and/or Zones that are selected and the lengths of those codes. The maximum number of Business Hour Exceptions that can be supported for any given entity is 250. In the event that all required exceptions cannot be provided, this process can be executed twice in succession using the Add to existing; delete older entries strategy for at least the second invocation.
If Zone IDs were specified, only entities whose addresses are covered by one of the user specified Zones will be selected. Geo-areas that use distance areas will be ignored. Since there is no specific address that can be associated with a delivery schedule, itinerary or tariff service, the determination regarding whether a match exists with the zones specified as part of the request will be made as follows:
- For delivery schedules:
- If any itinerary for the delivery schedule references at least one of the zones specified as part of the request, the delivery schedule will qualify.
- If any itinerary for the delivery schedule references a shipping location where the address corresponds to any of the zones specified as part of the request, the delivery schedule will qualify.
- For itineraries within delivery schedules:
- If the itinerary references at least one of the zones specified as part of the request, the itinerary will qualify.
- If the itinerary references a shipping location where the address corresponds to any of the zones specified as part of the request, the itinerary will qualify.
- For tariff services:
- If any lane for the corresponding tariff that refers to the applicable service (or does not reference any service) and also references at least one of the zones specified as part of the request, the tariff service will qualify.
- If any lane for the corresponding tariff that refers to the applicable service (or does not reference any service) and also references a hub where the address corresponds to at least one of the zones specified as part of the request, the tariff service will qualify.
When a Zone specified in the Zones field is a Business Hour Zone, and the “All Business Hour Zones” check box is selected, the update will also apply to the specified Business Hour Zone itself in the Zones input field. If a Zone specified in the Zones field is not a Business Hour Zone, the update will have no impact on the specified Zone itself. If Zones are specified, then at least one of them must be of Business Zone category in order for the “All Business Hour Zones” option to be applicable. A user can use this feature to define standard holidays for a region only once. The new exception dates will be applied to the entities that fall in the Business Hour Zone and the Business Hour Zone itself is updated so that exceptions will be available when new entities are subsequently created with addresses in this region.
If no Zone is specified in the Zones field and the “All Business Hour Zones” check box is selected, then all Business Hour Zones will be updated.
Access to information related to the Business Hours Exceptions requests is provided via the Miscellaneous Module/Requests link in the Navigation Pad.
