Domain table information
Domain tables are used to make it easier to maintain and validate the data that you use in Transportation Manager.
Some of the advantages to using Domain Tables are:
- Data entry is quicker and easier. Entries in Domain Tables can usually be selected using the first letter of the description.
- Data consistency is maintained. The system can group and search your data based on descriptions that will not vary due to typographical errors or variations in spelling and punctuation.
- Data validation is improved. If a field requires an entry code from a certain table as input, it will accept only one of the configured entries in that table. This means that you cannot inadvertently enter a unit of measure code (such as LB) in a field that requires a currency code (such as USD). As well, the table information can be made available during data entry. In fields that are validated against tables, you can use the combo box to open the table and make your selection. The table ensures that the entry will be valid and consistent.
Each Domain table contains the same standard information:
- Value Code: The code that represents the information.
- System Provided: A flag that indicates whether the code is generated by the system (Y) or created by the user (N). You cannot change this column.
- Value Description: The description for the code.
- Active: A flag that indicates whether the code is active and available for use in the system. You can activate (Y) or deactivate (N) a code by changing this flag.
