Set-up Lanes (Employee)
The Set-Up Lanes utility allows users to create multiple lanes at a time. Refer to List of Lanes for Tariff for information on tariff lanes.
This utility allows you to specify a list of Origin Zones and/or Hubs and a separate list of Destination Zones and/or Hubs. When the request is initiated, Transportation Manager will create lanes for all unique combinations of Origin and Destination points. When multiple Zones or Hubs are provided, they should be separated by a comma.
For example: Suppose the list of Origin Zones and Destination Zones each listed zones corresponding to these countries: France, Spain and Portugal. In this case, assuming no lanes already existing for the tariff, nine new lanes would be created (for example, France-France, France-Spain, France-Portugal, Spain-France, Spain-Spain, Spain-Portugal, Portugal-France, Portugal-Spain, Portugal-Portugal).
If a Rate Code is specified, the same value will be assigned to all lanes created by each Set-Up Lanes request.
Note: Lanes refer to Rate Codes. The Rate Code must be valid for the tariff before it can be referenced by a Lane. Rate Codes can be created at the same time as a Lanes using Set-Up Lanes by specifying Create Using Specified Value for Rate Code Control.
You must set up the zones and hubs that will be referenced as origins or destinations prior to creating lanes.
Lanes will be created only when the applicable combination does not already exist for the tariff.
The Set-Up Lanes utility can be accessed from any of the following lists:
- List of Tariffs
- List of Lanes for Tariff Rate Code
- List of Lanes for Tariff
- List of Lanes for Tariff Origin Zones
- List of Lanes for Tariff Origin Hubs
- List of Lanes for Tariff Destination Zones
- List of Lanes for Tariff Destination Hubs
- List of Services for Tariff
- List of Lanes for Tariff Origin Zones
- List of Lanes for Tariff Origin Hubs
- List of Lanes for Tariff Destination Zones
- List of Lanes for Tariff Destination Hubs
The Submit/Continue button will invoke the set-up lanes request and return you to the start page for this utility so that you can invoke another request, presumably using a different set of criteria. The Submit/Finish button will invoke the set-up lanes request and return you to the list from which this utility was accessed. In either case, an informational message will provide a count of the number of Lanes created by the Set-Up Lanes process.
User Zone Groups
User Zone Groups will allow a set of Zones to be referenced collectively. The same Zone can be referenced as part of multiple User Zone Groups.
For example: A zone representing the state of Vermont in the United States could be reasonably included in all of the following User Zone Groups:
- Lower 48 States
- New England States
- North-East States
- Canadian Border States
- Hudson River States
While User Zone Group can be used throughout Transportation Manager as a filter criteria when searching for Zones, Set-Up Lanes is the only function that will allow the user to reference all of the zones associated with the User Zone Group in any other context. For Set-Up Lanes, when a User Zone Group is referenced, the routine will attempt to generate separate lanes for each of the Zones in the User Zone Group. This would be equivalent to listing each of the zones in the User Zone Group individually.
Master / Referential Tariff Considerations
If the tariff is a Master Tariff, the named Rate Code must exist for the current tariff. If the tariff is a Referential Tariff, the Rate Code must be assigned for either the Referential Tariff or for the corresponding Master Tariff.
If the current tariff is a Referential Tariff, lanes will be created for the Referential Tariff even if they already exist for the corresponding Master Tariff.
