Time zone context for dates/times

Dates/times associated with an event that has occurred or will occur at a shipping location will be captured in the audit tables in the time zone context of the applicable shipping location.

Dates/times used to capture system activity will be in the system time zone context. This is the time zone in which your company operates.

A Time Zone Offset is captured in the audit tables for each of the three categories of date/time (origin location, destination location, system). The offsets for origin and destination will always reflect the net difference between the location and time zone for the system.

If the Time Zone Offset for the default set of Business Hours in the Global Settings has a non-zero value, the Time Zone Offsets that are captured in the audit tables will also account for the difference between the system time zone and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

For example, assume these are the applicable time zones for a transaction:

  • System time zone - Chicago - Central Time (UTC minus 6)
  • Origin time zone - New York - Eastern Time (UTC minus 5, Base plus 1)
  • Destination time zone - Los Angeles - Pacific Time (UTC minus 8, Base minus 2)

If Time Zone Offset for the default set of Business Hours in the Global Settings is zero:

  • Time Zone Offset associated with System Dates/Times will be 0
  • Time Zone Offset associated with Origin Location Dates/Times will be +1
  • Time Zone Offset associated with Destination Location Dates/Times will be -2

If Time Zone Offset for the default set of Business Hours in the Global Settings is -6 (to reflect difference from UTC:

  • Time Zone Offset associated with System Dates/Times will be -6
  • Time Zone Offset associated with Origin Location Dates/Times will be -5
  • Time Zone Offset associated with Destination Location Dates/Times will be -8
