Edit single and multiple entity view rows

Editing entity view data can be initiated in one of these ways:

  • By clicking directly on an editable field. This method sets the selected field to edit mode. Type the desired value directly the text box. You can also clear the current value by clicking provided on the right-hand side of the text box.
  • By selecting one or more rows (using the row selection check box) followed by right-click on an editable cell of any selected row, then select Edit Selected…

Note: If the field is more than just a straight text box (such as a date, date/time or reference to another object), you will also get the appropriate picker-support icon to help you make a value selection.

When using Edit Selected…

  1. For monetary and Unit of Measure (UoM) type fields, select one of the following options from the drop-down list and enter the required value in the field beside the drop-down list:
    • Set Value: Replaces the selected field(s) with the value entered in the field beside the drop-down list.
    • Adjust by Amount: Modifies the selected field(s) by the amount entered in the field beside the drop-down list. Both positive and negative amounts are supported in the field beside the drop-down list.
    • Adjust by percent: Modifies the selected field(s) by the percentage entered in the field beside the drop-down list. Both positive and negative percentages are supported in the field beside the drop-down list.

Note: For other editable data types, only the Set Value option is provided.

  2. Use the Set Value option when you want to clear existing values in a field. Simply leave the text box blank.
  3. Click OK to accept your selection in the Edit Selected dialog. Alternatively, you can click or press the Esc key to close the dialog box without making a selection.
  4. Note: When you change the value in a column, a red triangle is displayed on the top left-hand corner of the cell indicating a change. This is your visual clue that a change is made, but not yet saved to the database.

  5. Repeat the above to edit a different column in the same view, or to edit the same column for a different row selection.
  6. Click Submit to post changes to the database, after finishing row level edits. If an error occurs while posting updates, it is displayed in a summary message at the top of the results panel. Click this message to view the entire message log. Alternatively, Click Reset to revert un-posted changes.

Notes:

  • If there is more than one error in a single row, only one message will appear because validation on the row halts once an error is identified. In case of multi-row updates, the application will take a best effort approach to process all the rows and that could result in some rows updating successfully while other rows fail with an error. Rows that fail to update are tagged with a red dog-ear in the upper left-hand corner, while successfully updated rows will revert to the default presentation and show the updated value.
  • The UI will prompt you to save or reset un-posted changes if you attempt to perform an operation that navigates away from the Smartbench frame.
