Minimum/Maximum Rating Units – Application
The tariff charge table supports a Minimum Rating Units for Rate Application and a Maximum Rating Units for Rate Application. These can be maintained on the rating tab of the tariff condition/option properties.
If a minimum is specified, rating will use the minimum if it is greater than the actual number of rating units. If the value assigned as the look-up unit type for the transaction is the same as the (rating) unit type, the minimum would also be used for rate range look-up. The same would apply in reverse if the actual number of Rating Units exceeded the maximum.
When rating is performed for a tariff charge (condition or option) where the Data Accumulation Level is Transaction:
- For loads, shipments, shipment legs, rate calculator (web UI), rate quotation (API) and non-operational freight, the minimum defined for the tariff charge will be used for rating when it exceeds the total for the entire transaction. Likewise, the maximum will be used as the basis for rating when it is less than the total for the transaction.
- For trips, when rating each load on the trip, the minimum defined for the tariff charge will be used for rating when it exceeds the total for the load. Likewise, the maximum will be used as the basis for rating when it is less than the total for the load.
When rating is performed for a tariff charge (condition or option) where the Data Accumulation Level is Container:
- For loads, trips, shipments, shipment legs and rate quotations (API only), the minimum defined for the tariff charge will be used for rating when it exceeds the value for an individual container. Likewise, the maximum will be used as the basis for rating when it is less than the value for the container. The evaluation will be made separately for each container. When Rateware is being used to compute container based rates, rating units for individual containers will be overridden with the minimum or maximum, when applicable, prior to invoking Rateware.
- For non-operational freight transactions (NOF) and rate calculator requests (web UI), since a single container applies for the entire transaction, the minimum will be used when it is greater than the total for the transaction and the maximum will be used if is less than the total for the transaction.
When rating is performed for a tariff charge (condition or option) where the Data Accumulation Level is Pick Location, Drop Location or Pick and Drop Location:
- For loads and trips:
- If the Data Accumulation Level is Pick Location the "picked" shipment attributes associated with each pick stop will be compared to the minimum and maximum. When applicable, the minimum or maximum value will supplant the actual rating units.
- If the Data Accumulation Level is Drop Location, the "dropped" shipment attributes associated with each delivery stop will be compared to the minimum and maximum. When applicable, the minimum or maximum value will supplant the actual rating units.
- If the Data Accumulation Level is Pick and Drop Location, the total of the "picked" and "dropped" shipment attributes associated with each stop will be compared to the minimum and maximum. When applicable, the minimum or maximum value will supplant the actual rating units.
Note: The minimum will be applied even when the applicable value for the stop is zero.
- For shipments, non-operational freight, rate calculator requests (web UI), rate quotation requests (API) and shipment legs, the minimum defined for the tariff charge will be used for rating when it exceeds the total for the transaction. Likewise, the maximum will be used as the basis for rating when it is less than the total for the transaction.
