Create/Update Asset Assignment

Use this page to create an asset assignment or to update an existing asset assignment. Asset Assignments may optionally be associated to an existing load, trip, or booking.

  1. To create an assignment, perform one of the following tasks:
    • From the Asset Assignment view, click New, the Create Asset Assignment page is displayed.
    • From the Asset Schedule view, perform one of the following tasks:
      • Click New. The Create Asset Assignment page is displayed.

      • In the timeline, drag on the unoccupied timeslot for some duration and release. The Create Asset Assignment page is displayed.
  2. To update an existing assignment, perform one of the following tasks:
    1. From the Asset Assignment view, select a row and click Update. The Update Asset Assignment page is displayed.
    2. From the Asset Schedule view, select an asset assignment in the timeline and click Update. The Update Asset Assignment page is displayed.

Note: If the Asset Assignment view has a single row relating an association to a single load, trip, or booking, that is, the view is reached via cascade from a Load view, Trip view, or Booking view the Load ID, Trip ID, or Booking ID is pre-populated. Otherwise, it will be blank, and you may need to populate it to build the proper assignment.

  3. Enter the necessary information.

    Notes:

    • When an asset assignment is not associated to a load, trip, or booking only the “Time Overlap” violation is considered.

    • Asset assignments associated to a load or trip will be automatically updated by the system to reflect the domicile(if applicable), start and end locations and start and end date/time from the associated load/trip/booking, user inputs may be overridden when load/trip/booking is updated. If necessary, this data can be modified after an asset is associated with a load, trip, or booking.

    • Defaulted values on “associated” Asset Assignment fields (such as, Domicile, Start/End Location and Date/Time) consider the Asset’s associated Resource Type (if set). If the associated load, trip, or booking uses domicile-based equipment, the matched resource information is applied before referring to Load Schedule, Load or Load-Stop information. Individual fields can still be manually overridden.

    • By default, an asset assigned to a trip, booking or load is considered as visiting all the stops for the associated trip, booking, or load while an asset assigned to a booking is assigned to every booking-load. However, an asset can be assigned to part of a load, trip (aka partial assignment). The range of a partial assignment is established using the start and end location ID pickers. Choose locations from specific load schedule or load-stop entries. If the same asset handles more than one segment of a load, trip, or booking, create a separate assignment for each contiguous segment. If an asset is not to be associated with every booking-load, assign the asset to the individual booking-load(s) instead of the booking.

    • An asset that is Location Specific (i.e., does not travel with the load), must have the same starting and ending location IDs.

    • Both location-specific asset assignments and partial load/trip/booking assignments can be defined only through this page.

  4. If creating an assignment, click Save/Continue to save an asset assignment and continue creating a new asset assignment. Alternatively, click Save/Finish to complete the creation of asset assignment.
  5. If updating an existing assignment, click Save to save the modified asset assignment.

Notes: Operations which modify load, trip, or booking content, such as adding or removing loads from a trip, assign/remove legs from a load, etc. automatically handle assignment-stop associations within their respective transaction streams. In addition:

  • When load schedules are created or updated, associated asset assignments are updated to reflect the start and end date/time and (if changed) start and end locations.

  • Certain modifications to load operational status updates will result in an update to the status of associated asset assignments.

  • Asset assignments will be deleted when the load/trip/booking carrier is updated to a different Carrier ID or cleared.

IMPORTANT: Asset assignments for a shared asset will be retained.
