Optimization Request (Employee)
Use this screen to create an optimization request for the current Plan. The optimization may start immediately, or processing may not start until other optimization requests have completed.
The Optimize operation can be triggered from:
- Load Build Control (Employee)
- List of Optimization Requests (Employee)
- Load view
- Trip view
- Shipment Leg view
- Booking view
- Optimization Request view
In most environments, the Optimize operation should be selected only after the following operations are performed:
- From the Transportation Manager Web user interface (all available from the Load Build Control screen):
- Shipment Leg Operations > Attach to Current Plan or Attach All to Current Plan
- Shipment Operations > Collapse Itinerary
- Optimization Operations > Select for Optimization or Select All for Optimization
- Load Operations > Select Load's Shipments for Optimization (that is, destroy load and select shipments attached to the load for optimization)
- Load Operations > Approve (that is, sets Approved flag for loads to True)
- Load Operations > Delete Dock Commitments (e.g. delete dock commitments for loads in still in Open status so that these dates/times will not constrain re-planning)
- From Transportation Smartbench:
- From Shipment Leg view, use the “Execute operations across pages” feature for the Attach to Current Plan operation.
- From Shipment view, use the "Execute operations across pages” feature for the Collapse Itinerary operation.
- From Shipment Leg view, use the “Execute operations across pages” feature for the Select for Optimization operation.
- From Load view, use the “Execute operations across pages” feature for the Select Load’s Shipments for Optimization operation.
- From Load view, select applicable rows and then update the Load Composition Approved column for all selected rows.

Use the filter/search icon to the right of this check box to access the Create Optimization Request – Select Loads (Employee) page; filter criteria specified on the filter page are used when selecting loads not currently attached to a trip or booking for optimization.
If you select the Include Eligible Loads check box but do not navigate to the Create Optimization Request – Select Loads (Employee) page, no optional filter criteria are used.
Select the Include Eligible Trips check box to trigger re-planning for existing trips. Use the filter/search icon to the right of this check box to access the Create Optimization Request – Select Trips (Employee) page; filter criteria specified on the filter page are used when selecting trips for optimization.
If you select the Include Eligible Trips check box but do not navigate to the Create Optimization Request – Select Trips (Employee) page, no optional filter criteria is used.
Select the Include Eligible Bookings check box to trigger re-planning for existing bookings. Use the filter/search icon to the right of this check box to access the Create Optimization Request – Select Bookings (Employee) page. Filter criteria specified on the filter page are used when selecting bookings for optimization.
If you select the Include Eligible Bookings check box but do not navigate to the Create Optimization Request – Select Bookings (Employee) page, no optional filter criteria is used.
If the Optimization operation is triggered from the web UI or Transportation Smartbench, all shipments, loads, trips, bookings and dock commitments created or modified based on the results of the Optimization Request will have a Created By User ID or Last Changed By User ID equal to the ID of the user that triggered the Optimize operation. If the Optimize operation is triggered via API, the User ID assigned to transactions created or modified based on the results of the Optimization Request will be the User ID explicitly provided when the operation was invoked, if specified, else it will be the Created By User ID for the applicable Plan.
