Route, Rate and Schedule – Loads (Employee)

Use this screen to route, rate, and schedule loads.

The Route, Rate and Schedule screen for loads is displayed in view-only mode even for authorized users when any of the following are true:

  • Load is currently being re-planned (that is, optimized)
  • Financial status has progressed beyond Voucher Pending
  • The load is currently suspended.

Note: If a request was made to perform the Rate Shop operation for a load and the load is not currently eligible for rating updates, the Route, Rate and Schedule screen for loads is displayed instead of the Rate Shop screen for loads.

After you have created a load and assigned shipments to it, you can then rate and schedule it. Load scheduling is automatically done when the load rating process performs routing and rating on the selected load.

The routing, rating, and scheduling process is also automatically triggered when you confirm a load. Routing, rating, and scheduling are part of a single updating process that is triggered when you confirm a load.

When rating and scheduling are complete, you can check and update the stops as required. When you have confirmed all the load details, you can set the load to Planned status, and proceed to tendering the load.

Note: A load cannot be set to Planned status unless it has been rated and scheduled.

Even if routing, rating and scheduling fails, a load will be successfully confirmed, and its operational and financial statuses will be upgraded. However, because of the failed rating, the load's Rating Valid field will have a value of "False", and this will prevent the load from being selected by the voucher generation process. In the Load Processing module, you can search for loads that have been confirmed but have failed routing, rating, and scheduling.

Charge Overrides defined prior to triggering the route, rate and schedule process will be used to determine eligible tariff/service combinations and/or impact rating results.

The following edits will be performed as part of the route, rate and schedule process for a load:

  • Commodity Exclusions - Verify that load does not include shipments with excluded commodities.
  • Shipment Consolidation Class - If the Allow Merging of Consolidation Classes flag in the Global Settings (Controls screen, Workflow tab) is not active, edit to ensure that all Shipment Consolidation Class is equal for all shipments attached to the load. Since this edit is also performed when attempting to assign shipment legs to a load, this error condition is identified by the routing/rating/scheduling process only if Global Settings have been modified after the load is created.
  • Commodity / Equipment Type Exclusions - Edit to ensure that none of the commodities for the shipments attached to the load appear on the exclusion list for the load's equipment type.
  • Equipment Type / Shipping Location Configuration:
    • If neither the load nor any of the attached shipment legs have a committed Equipment Type (Tractor or Trailer), the Equipment Type for the load must be enabled for Unrestricted use at each of the stops on the load's itinerary.
    • If either the load or any of the attached shipment legs have a committed Equipment Type (Tractor or Trailer), the committed Equipment Type must be enabled for Restricted or Unrestricted use at each of the stops on the load's itinerary.

Note: For shipping locations with no supported equipment types defined, any equipment type is considered to be enabled for Unrestricted use.

  • Drop and Pick (interleaving) before the Final Stop
    • Under no circumstances can the proposed itinerary for a load include unloaded segments between other segments where freight is being moved.
    • If the proposed itinerary includes a stop where all shipments will be unloaded and replaced with different shipments, the shipping location where the load becomes temporarily empty must be configured to Allow Full Interleaving.

Note: The Benchmark Rates section is displayed on this page if one or more of the benchmark costs are available. See Benchmark Rates for more information.

Note: If Monetary Information Control field is set to No Monetary Values or No Rating Values in the user profile, then the rating and charge information sections are suppressed for the user.
